What is Rigid Stock?

James Clark January 3, 2024

Rigid stock is characterized by its robustness and resistance to bending or folding, which represents the structural integrity and protection of the packaged items. Solid stock is regularly used for high-end product packaging, including luxury gift boxes, electronics packaging or cosmetic packaging where a large and fantastic experience is preferred.

Why do Luxury Products need Rigid Stock?

Rigid packaging is what most of the luxury brands prefer for their products. It is the best option for luxury product packaging because it is sturdy and gives a vibe of high-quality. The touch materials keep the packaging strong and provide a shield  to your expensive goods. It not only keeps things safe but also makes it feel special by giving a fancy touch and luxury experience which establishes a brand image.

From birthday presents to wedding rings, this packaging is the most surprising one.  Due to their creative design and a lot of customization that can be made on them, they are out of the box. Using them will make you win the hearts of buyers and consumers. Add ons like foil stamps and embossing and debossing give them a royal look.

Rigid Stock: How Is It Made?

But how do rigid boxes reach this finished stage? The construction process of these high-end boxes is divided into four simple steps that apply to both options:

Step 1: Sizing

Starting off as a flat paperboard, usually at least 800gsm thick, where it is cut and scored to its correct size. The dotted lines show where the paperboard will then be folded up.

Step 2: Folding

The sides of the box are folded up and secured to form the base shape of the box. Once folded, you have the basic skeleton of your packaging.

Step 3: Printing

A design is printed onto a piece of paper (the wrap), gets laminated, and other add-ons such as foil stamping or embossing are also done now. The wrap is then automatically glued to the shape of the box.

Step 4: Wrapping

The wrap covers your box tightly and brings your boxes to life.
